Calvin Pickard, along with his Gritty mask, will be in net tonight for the Philadelphia Flyers.
A night after a self-described ’embarrassing’ home opener in which the Flyers admittedly hung their goaltender out to dry, the new guy will be thrown into the fire. Pickard will get a chance to prove himself as the Flyers look to bounce back.
The Flyers claimed Pickard on Oct. 2 after he was waived by the Maple Leafs. Pickard played in just one game last season with Toronto, allowing four goals on 28 shots in a 4-3 overtime loss in Colorado.
Pickard had a .918 save percentage and 2.31 goals against average in 33 games with the Marlies in the AHL last season.
It could be a long night for Pickard as the Flyers are playing in the second half of a back-to-back with travel involved after giving up eight goals on 48 shots last night. However, if there is ever a team to start against in this first month, it is the Senators.
Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. in Ottawa.
