The Philadelphia Flyers’ season came to a screeching halt by 6PM Sunday evening, following a disappointing Game 6 loss at the Wells Fargo Center. The Flyers built a 4-2 lead midway through the game and things looked like they were headed back to Pittsburgh for a potential Game 7. But the back-t0-back Stanley Cup Champions wouldn’t let that happen, scoring five consecutive goals, making it 7-4 and eventually finishing the game 8-5.
Sean Couturier, on a torn MCL, picked up a hat trick and contributed on every single Flyer goal that afternoon. Michal Neuvirth struggled and the defense really had a tough time keeping pace with Pittsburgh. At the end of the day, the Flyers and Penguins series showed the difference between the two teams and how far the Flyers are from being a Cup contender. They head into the offseason with a lot of questions, but also with a lot of hope towards the future.
