The Philadelphia Flyers got a much-needed, clutch win at home against the Carolina Hurricanes. Michael Raffl got the scoring started, after being placed on the top line with Claude Giroux and Sean Couturier. Thursday spelled the return of Brian Elliott in net. He wasn’t sharp, but it’s a good sign that he’s healthy and good to go moving forward.
Ivan Provorov drove the net and battled for his own rebound to tie things at two. Then Claude Giroux happened. Captain Clutch got a pass from Couturier and sniped a wrister to the back of the net. The MVP candidate grabbed his 98th point of the season, putting him into a tie for second in the NHL.
After Elliott was beaten a shift later, Jake Voracek snaked his way through the defense and fired a shot through Darling to give the Flyers a lead and the eventual win. What a moment at the Wells Fargo Center. What a night for the Orange and Black. It’s coming down to the wire.
