Shayne just keeps making history.
Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere became the fastest defenseman in franchise history to reach the 100 point mark. It took him just 155 games as he recorded an assist in the 1st period of Thursday night’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Gostisbehere streaked down the boards, got a pass from Claude Giroux, and sent a cross-ice pass to Jake Voracek, who buried the one-time chance.
A great job by Ghost to fake a shot and feed Voracek for the goal.
“It’s a tremendous honor. Our team’s got a lot of history, just to be a part of it is pretty cool,” Gostisbehere said. “My teammates helped me along the way. It’s awesome.”
Gostisbehere recorded 46 points (17 goals, 29 assists) in 64 games during his rookie season, then 39 points (7 goals, 32 assists) in 76 games last season. This year he now has 15 points (1 goal, 14 assists) in 13 games to get up to 100 points in his career.
There were plenty of records set by Gostisbehere during his scorching rookie year, and he picked up another one on Thursday night.
His sister, Felicia, made sure to congratulate him on Twitter.
