Flyers hockey is here!
The Philadelphia Flyers rookies will take the ice tonight at the Wells Fargo Center against the New York Islanders rookies. It’s the first game action of the season, and the guys are pumped up for it.
It’s only an exhibition match between mostly prospects, but the intensity will be there. And the Flyers are ready.
Travis Sanheim is no stranger to Rookie Camps and proving himself, and he knows that this will be a great chance to do that, for everyone. “I think from both sides people are trying to showcase their game to the management and coaching staff. I think it’s going to be a competitive game. There’s going to be people battling and I’m looking forward to it, he said.”
Goaltender Carter Hart, who is in his second year in the organization, echoed that sentiment. He will likely see part of the game in net as he and Alex Lyon are the only goalies in camp. “I think it’ll be intense for both teams out there. It’s just a rookie game so everyone is just trying to make a first impression,” Hart said. “Everyone is going to be out there battling.”
While those two guys gave good answers and some solid insight, Sam Morin seemed delighted to talk about the game. It’s his fourth-year in the organization and it looks like he’s finally ready for the NHL.
Morin praised the Flyers fans, calling them “unreal.” “It’s just a rookie game and we’re playing at [the Wells Fargo Center],” he said. “You can see how passionate the fans are.”
He’s practically a rookie camp veteran at this point, but he knows what it feels like to be a younger guy in camp. “[They] may be a little bit nervous, but they gotta realize how lucky we are to have such good fans here and we’re not playing in those markets with no fans. It’s fun.”
We agree Sam, we agree. Philadelphia is a great hockey town and tonight’s game is only the beginning.
