The Phantoms are moving on.
The Lehigh Valley Phantoms have defeated the Charlotte Checkers in five games to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. They have lost just one game in each of their first two series.
After winning the longest game in AHL history on Wednesday night (er, Thursday morning), the Phantoms took care of business on Saturday night to win Game 5, 5-1, to take the series, 4-1.
Corban Knight opened the scoring in the first period, while Chris Conner and Tyrell Goulbourne added goals in the second period to give the Phantoms a 3-0 lead. They built on that in the 3rd period with goals from Phil Myers and Colin McDonald to take a 5-1 lead.
Oskar Lindblom led the way for the Phantoms with two assists, while they got goals from Knight, Conner, Goulbourne, Myers, and McDonald in the 5-1 win. Alex Lyon made 27 saves on 28 shots for the win.
A hard-fought series win.
And a moment between the goalies.
The Phantoms will face the Toronto Marlies in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Marlies beat the Utica Comets in five games in the First Round, then swept the Syracuse Crunch in the Second Round.
The Eastern Conference Finals will begin next weekend, with Game 1 on Saturday and Game 2 on Sunday in Toronto.
Let’s go Phantoms!
