The Philadelphia Flyers didn’t have the playoff run that they had hoped, but the Lehigh Valley Phantoms are making some noise. They, and Alex Lyon, got national attention for their five-overtime win in Game 4, then they beat the Charlotte Checkers in Game 5 on Saturday night to take the series in five games.
The Phantoms will now play the Toronto Marlies in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Phantoms and Marlies are both 7-2 in the playoffs. The Marlies’ first round went the distance to five games, then they swept the Syracuse Crunch. On the other hand, the Phantoms lost one game in each of their first two rounds.
The series will begin with two games in Toronto, then three in Lehigh Valley, and two more in Toronto if necessary.
- Game 1 – Saturday, May 19, 4:00 p.m at Marlies
- Game 2 – Sunday, May 20, 4:00 p.m at Marlies
- Game 3 – Wednesday, May 23, 7:05 p.m. vs. Marlies
- Game 4 – Friday, May 25, 7:05 p.m. vs. Marlies
- Game 5* – Saturday, May 26, 7:05 p.m. vs. Marlies
- Game 6* – Monday, May 28, 7:00 p.m. at Marlies
- Game 7* – Wednesday, May 30, 7:00 p.m. at Marlies
The Phantoms went 0-1-1 in two games against Toronto this season. They lost 5-1 at home and lost 3-2 in a shootout in Toronto.
The Phantoms will get some much-needed rest with six days off between games. They will get Nicolas Aube-Kubel back from his suspension, while the status of Sam Morin and Travis Sanheim are up in the air. Both of the defensemen seem to be doubtful to return this year.
