The Philadelphia Flyers came to life in Buffalo. After just one goal on Saturday night in Washington, the offense exploded in Buffalo on Tuesday night.
The Flyers scored six goals, all at even strength, in a huge 6-3 win against the Sabres. They are now 3-0-1 in their last four games and are inching closer to that final wild card spot.
Ivan Provorov, Wayne Simmonds and Travis Konecny were excited to start their big week.
So were the rest of the Flyers, who had some smelling salts on the bench.
Bellemare, sporting his new “A”, threw some punches with the much bigger Deslauriers
The Flyers opened the scoring with a goal from Matt Read! He deflected Radko Gudas’ shot home.
It was all setup by a great play in the neutral zone by Sean Couturier.
Dad celebrated with his large adult sons.
The Flyers had a chance to go up by two, but they were thwarted on the power play.
Then the Sabres quickly scored on a power play of their own.
The teams went tied at one into the first intermission.
But the Flyers came back to regain the lead.
Radko Gudas fired a beautiful shot for the goal!
What a snipe!
Then Steve Mason kept the Flyers up by one with a huge save on a 2-on-1.
But he couldn’t stop this one from Jack Eichel on the power play.
Especially since it deflected off of Andrew MacDonald’s stick.
Then Mason came up with another big save on an odd-man rush.
And the Flyers regained the lead yet again!
Jordan Weal knocked the puck down in the defensive zone and wheeled up the ice in transition before getting the goal.
What a finish in front.
And the Flyers kept pouring it on.
They went up 4-2 on this goal by Claude Giroux!
Another nice setup by Weal along the wall to get the puck to the point for the rebound goal.
Captain Claude was pumped.
The Flyers held a 4-2 lead going into the third period.
They kept it going in Buffalo.
Michael Del Zotto’s shot from the point was deflected in front to make it a 5-2 game.
A Chris VandeVelde goal!
Then Travis Konecny made a filthy moved and sniped one past Lehner.
The Sabres got one back, but the Flyers took this one by a score of 6-3!
The Flyers congratulated their goaltender.
The Flyers have another big game on Thursday night as they travel to Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs at 7:30.
