The Philadelphia Flyers headed up to Boston on Thursday night, but they couldn’t come away with a victory.
It was a game full of penalties, power plays, and squandered chances. Travis Sanheim continued his push towards battling for a roster spot, however. He scored the lone goal and made good plays all night long.
Let’s get to it.
Robert Hagg stood up a man in the neutral zone to negate a rush. It’s nice to see that out of a Flyers defenseman wearing a number in the high 40s.
Nolan Patrick dished a sweet between the legs pass from behind the net into the slot to Wayne Simmonds for a scoring chance.
The Flyers and Bruins were scoreless after one penalty filled period.
The Flyers nearly opened the scoring early in the second.
Travis Konecny sauced a pass towards the net to Sean Couturier, but his attempt was denied.
Radko Gudas took a tripping penalty, sending the Flyers to the penalty kill.
He must’ve been watching some Nolan Patrick highlights in the penalty box. Or he had food stuck in his beard.
Brian Elliott stood tall on the penalty kill, much like he did all night long.
The Flyers and Bruins remained scoreless through two periods of play.
Sean Couturier took a stick to the face early in the third period.
And then the Flyers got on the board.
Ivan Provorov made a great diving play to get the puck up out of the zone.
And Travis Sanheim finished with a deceptive shot.
Celly hard Travis, you deserve it.
Alex Lyon made a nice save to preserve the lead.
But the Bruins would score moments later.
Nolan Patrick continued his great play with a subtle play. He batted the puck out of midair and sent Jordan Weal on a rush.
Lyon stood tall later in the period.
Sam Morin made a good play in the slot to negate a chance.
And the game headed to overtime!
Claude Giroux came inches away from winning it in overtime before Lyon made a huge stop.
Valtteri Filppula hit the post as well.
But Lyon couldn’t stop another odd-man rush, this time a breakaway after a bad pinch by Andrew MacDonald.
The Flyers lost 2-1 in overtime.
