It’s cold outside, but the Philadelphia Flyers heated things up inside of the Wells Fargo Center on Thursday night.
The Flyers broke out with a four-goal second period en route to a 6-4 win against the New York Islanders.
Sean Couturier picked up his first career Gordie Howe Hat Trick in the win, as five different Flyers had goals, including Ivan Provorov with two, and 12 different Flyers recorded at least one point! There was also plenty of physicality to go around.
Let’s get to it.
They had some early scoring chances, but couldn’t convert just yet.
Shayne Gostisbehere broke some ankles at the blue line for a chance.
Sean Couturier gave the Flyers a lead with a goal in front!
Just the tip.
Another assist for Claude Giroux and Jake Voracek.
Then Travis Konecny got things going with a big fight.
Wayne Simmonds and Nolan Patrick were loving it.
Wayne couldn’t get enough.
But the Islanders tied it up.
Cal Clutterbuck picked up his 200th NHL point on this goal.
Radko Gudas and Simmonds were throwing the body around.
Brian Elliott made a glove save to keep the game tied late in the period.
The Flyers and Islanders were tied at 1 after one period of play.
They really got things going in the second.
Gostisbehere had another great keep at the blue line that led to a goal in front by Michael Raffl.
Raffl tipped home Ivan Provorov’s shot!
Then they quickly made it 3-1 with a Simmonds goal in front just 40 seconds later.
Choo choo!
Havoc in front of the net and Simmonds cleaned it up.
Andrew MacDonald got a stick in the face, and the Flyers went on a four-minute power play.
They converted.
Patrick dropped a pass to Provorov, who sniped a goal.
A great shot.
A five-hole snipe by Provorov.
Clutterbuck got it back again, though, with a rebound goal.
But they kept pushing.
Couturier flipped a puck up to Konecny, who sniped a goal on the breakaway!
The alley-oop from Couturier to Konecny!
Are you not entertained?
Elliott came up with a big save in front to keep the momentum.
Konecny nearly scored again off this rush, but Thomas Greiss came up with a save.
The Flyers led the Islanders 5-2 after two periods of play.
John Tavares made it a 5-3 game with a power-play goal.
Then the Flyers got a power play, but they could not convert down low.
That close.
Ryan Pulock then skated around Hagg and beat Elliott on the short side to make it a 5-4 game late.
Couturier took down Josh Bailey for the Gordie Howe Hat Trick, but also took himself out of the game for the final five minutes of regulation.
The Flyers were under fire late in the 3rd period, but Brian Elliott stood tall in the crease.
Then all hell broke loose.
Scott Laughton is a baaaaad man.
I love Wayne Simmonds.
Ivan Provorov iced the game with an empty-net goal!
Flyers win 6-4!
