What has been rumored for a while is now official: Philadelphia Flyers first round pick German Rubtsov will remain in North America after the World Junior Championship and join the Chicoutimi Saguenéens of the QMJHL for the remainder of the season.

“Confirmed German Rubtsov will finish the season with the @ the first pick of the Flyers in 2016 is wounded but not seriously”
Rubtsov had been getting very little usage for his Russian club. It was no fault of his own, but he had no points and was a minus-four in 15 games for Vityaz Podolsk. He got some time in the MHL as well and made the most of it, scoring 15 points (seven goals, eight assists) in 15 games with a plus-two rating with Russkie Vityazi Chekhov.
Rubtsov was touted as a skilled center that dropped down the draft board due to a doping scandal. The 18-year old struggled at times in the World Junior Championship, and ultimately ended the tournament with an injury. However, it does not appear to be serious which is a great thing for the young forward.
Hopefully Rubtsov can make the most of his new opportunity in the QMJHL.
