He had to wait for some paperwork to clear, but German Rubtsov is back on the ice.
The 2016 first-round pick made his season debut with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens in the QMJHL on Friday night and he made his mark early on. Rubtsov finished last in Chicoutimi after coming over from Russia.
Rubtsov recorded 22 points (nine goals, 13 assists) in just 16 games with the Sagueneens last seaason, and he’s picking up where he left off.
Rubtsov was named the third star of the game in Chicoutimi’s 4-0 win on Friday night.
He got his assist early and he showed off his skills in the process.
Rubtsov picked up the puck in the corner with some time and space. He stickhandled around a defender and skated to the other side of the ice to make a nice feed back across the ice, starting a tic-tac-toe goal to put Chicoutimi up 1-0.
It was the first goal of the evening for the Sagueneens and it turned out to be the game-winner.
It’s a good start for Rubtsov, who played well last season and during training camp with the Flyers. He’s one of many top forwards in the CHL this year off to a hot start.
