You don’t see this very often.
Over the weekend, Lehigh Valley Phantoms forward Danick Martel scored in a goal in tremendous fashion during their 7-1 win over the Providence Bruins. It was good enough to earn him a spot in SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays of the day!
Number four for a hockey play? And a minor league hockey play at that!
Let’s break it down a bit.
Colin McDonald got the puck back to the point to Will O’Neill, before Martel shot it home out of mid-air.
It’s even more impressive in slow motion.
A fantastic play by Martel in the slot.
Here’s another look from behind the net. What a play.
Amazing hand-eye from the forward.
It was Martel’s first of two goals on the night. He now has 18 points in 25 games on the season. He had 22 goals in 67 games last season for Lehigh Valley. Not too shabby for an undrafted free agent.
The Phantoms are the first team in the AHL to 20 wins this season. They have a talented bunch that will be fun to keep an eye on as the season moves along.
