The Philadelphia Flyers are getting ready to sign one high-scoring winger in James van Riemsdyk, but could there be another one on their radar?
Shortly after the news broke about van Riemsdyk on Saturday night, the Flyers were included in another rumor of sorts. Darren Dreger of TSN reported that the Flyers are among the “teams that make sense as a Panarin trade option.”
SJ, LA, Dallas, Florida, Tampa, NYI, NYR, PHI, BOS and NJD…no particular order, but teams that make sense as a Panarin trade option.

Reports of Columbus potentially trading away Panarin came up a few weeks ago, but the Flyers were never really linked to him. Now granted, this isn’t exactly an exclusive list or a strong link between the two parties, but seeing the Flyers as a team that makes sense for Panarin is intriguing.
It would surprise me if Columbus traded Panarin within the division, but that shouldn’t really matter if the Flyers can give them what they’re looking for. The Flyers have plenty of younger pieces if the Blue Jackets wanted to make a swap, and the two franchises have made multiple deals in the past handful of years.
Panarin is one of the best snipers in the game and that’s something the Flyers desperately need. He has scored 27 or more goals and had 74 or more points in each of his three NHL seasons. He is a dynamic winger that the Flyers would love to have. But the price has to be right.
Things should open up a bit in both the free agent market and trade market once John Tavares makes his decision. Keep an eye out for the Flyers possibly being in on Panarin if he truly is available.
