Flyers among ‘most active teams’ that are ‘at the center’ of a lot of trade conversations

The Philadelphia Flyers have a new general manager in Chuck Fletcher, and he could be looking to make a move soon. He has been at the helm for less than a week, so he hasn’t made any real changes yet, but that could change.

Fletcher said at his opening press conference that he’d be patient with Dave Hakstol and the players, but that isn’t what the reports are around the league.

On the 31 Thoughts Podcast, Elliotte Friedman said that despite how Fletcher said he was going to take his time, “all of the other teams are telling me at the Board of Governors that the Flyers want to make big trades right away. So I don’t know. I don’t know what’s going to happen there.”

It’s no surprise that the Flyers would be looking to make a move. They are toward the bottom of the standings and need more than just a change of GM. It also isn’t a surprise that there may be more rumors leaked now that Ron Hextall and his tight-lipped regime are gone.

Those reports continued over the weekend when Friedman mentioned the Flyers among some of the teams that are in the trade market.

“Just asking around, the teams that seem to be at the center of a lot of these conversations: L.A, Philly, Minnesota, Boston, Pittsburgh, Florida, St. Louis, and Chicago,” Friedman said Saturday night on Hockey Night in Canada. “All for different reasons, but those seem to be the most active teams and anything that’s kind of happening around the league is kind of flowing through them.”

The Flyers have a few areas that they could improve. Goaltending is first and foremost, with defense being up there as well. Defense is an area that Fletcher specifically said the team could work on, and a trade would definitely help that. A middle-six center would help too; that would take some of the load off of Nolan Patrick’s shoulders.

The efforts on Thursday night against Columbus – albeit for naught – and Saturday afternoon in Buffalo could buy the players some goodwill. If they keep winning, there won’t be a need for a big change.

The Flyers (27 points in 27 games) are four points behind the New York Islanders (31 points in 28 games) for third place in the Metropolitan Division.

  1. Voracek should be moved, to many nights off . they should go after Manson from the ducks, or Dumba . need toughness , they need to start paying a price to win , no heart ., Gudas is a joke . the defence gets pushed around to much .

What do you think?
