Claude Giroux to Wayne Simmonds after Stadium Series win: ‘No matter what happens, I love you’

I’m not crying, you’re crying.

Cameras and microphones caught an emotional moment between Claude Giroux and Wayne Simmonds after the Stadium Series win on Saturday night.

Giroux was one of several players and officials mic’d up by NBC, and they caught some great moments from the captain. The full hour-long special is set to air on Tuesday, but they teased some of it last night during Wednesday Night Hockey.

Why the Simmonds trade seems unfair despite Flyers receiving fair market value

The segment focused on Claude Giroux and his overtime winner, including the celebratory hugs with his teammates. And, well, just watch.

Giroux’s embrace with Simmonds was special.

Giroux: “Come here big guy. I love you, eh.”

Simmonds: “I love you too.”

Giroux: “Whatever happens, I love you.”

Simmonds: “I love you too.”

Giroux: “Yeah I know.”

G just had to get that “Yeah I know” quip in there at the end.

Here’s the full segment to give you more of a taste of what’s to come.

This came after we already got a glimpse into the locker room after the game, when the Player of the Game Helmet got passed around a few times, ultimately ending up in Simmonds’ hands.

The Wayne Simmonds era may be over for the Flyers, but he will always have a piece of Philadelphia’s heart.
