Philadelphia Flyers teammates became adversaries today as Team Canada took on Team Czech Republic at the World Championships.
Claude Giroux and Radko Gudas battled for a shift and then after Giroux took a penalty off the faceoff, Gudas defended his teammate. How did he defend his teammate? Oh, just with a no-look punch to the face of Giroux.
“That’s expected, that’s the way he plays,” Giroux said of Gudas. “Let’s just say that during the season I’m happy he’s on my team.”
Meanwhile, Gudas made it known that he’s going to play hard no matter what.
“I’m not gonna take it easy on anyone,” Gudas said. “We’re in different jerseys right now…We’re gonna laugh about it after for sure.”
Gudas knew that Giroux was on the ice, but wasn’t 100% sure of who it was that he punched in the moment. “It happens,” he said.
It looked like water under the bridge after the interviews were complete though, as Giroux gave Gudas a hard, yet playful, shove.
